Everyday Sounds: Downloadable Apps for Auditory Integration

Children with auditory sensitivities have a difficult time navigating around everyday sounds. They often express their abnormal sensitivity symptoms in some of these ways: they can be easily distracted, they may tune-out, speak with loud volume, listen to songs or poems on repeat or just have difficulty with following verbal instructions.

After attending the online Doman Method® Course, many parents start an Auditory Integration Program with their children to improve their ability to hear and locate meaningful sounds in the environment. Using apps to play sounds can be a great addition. For your child’s auditory input program, here we have a list of free apps for everyday sounds that you can download. Almost all of them are available for free.

Playing everyday sounds, one at a time in a quiet environment helps children with auditory sensitivities to recognize particular sounds in their individual intensity and relevance to their immediate surroundings. Their brain learns to distinguish them and they are able to respond more normally to their environment over time. Once you’ve run through options available in your home, children look for more variety. These apps can be a helpful resource to keep your Doman Method® Auditory Integration Program fun and interesting for your child.
