Why I Joined Glenn’s “Army”

I was raised on Glenn’s pioneering programs for well children. Although I was nine at the time, my mother always kicked herself that she didn’t find these programs sooner. Through these programs, I had absorbed the benefits of encyclopedic knowledge, music, foreign language, physical development, and much more.
Growing up, I had many chances to spend time with kids who were on the programs geared for children with brain-injuries. My mother was a teacher and translator for the families, which is how I had countless opportunities to spend a lot of one-on-one time with kids from around the world. When mother left work each day, she would tell me about the kids I was meeting: what they were not able to do before and how they’d grown on the program. Honestly, hearing these stories frequently, I just took it for granted - of course, all kids with special needs could improve! This was my reality every single day.
Since childhood, I have never seen any brain injury as a static occurrence. Glenn always propagated that the human brain is malleable, it changes, and most importantly, it grows. As I went through high school and college, I saw how the world treated kids with special needs. I saw the wasted potential, non-existent expectations, and worse, an absolute lack of respect.
I grew up around brain-injury and I feel that it allowed me to see life in a totally different way. For many people I speak to, they ask me, “isn’t it tough?” or, “Do you find it depressing to work with special needs kids? I could never do that!”

Growing up around Glenn and on his programs, I have never once thought a child never had a chance. It never crossed my mind that you should feel sad for a kid that’s differently abled. Yes, they may not be able to do the same things as you and me but they’re still an individual that deserves to be understood, recognized, and loved.
I also feel that this was one of the main reasons I decided to join Glenn’s Army. His army fights for the rights and respect for kids with special needs. His army fights for each and every win and success a child with special needs can gain. More importantly, his army is in the trenches with the families who work so hard for these gains.
To be an advocate, coach, and support for these kids and their dedicated families is truly humbling. To be an infantryman and follow the footsteps of Glenn and the other staff that have paved the way for newer generations is exciting!  My job as a Doman Method Coach is one that I look forward to each and every day.
Glenn always said:

Never leave the wounded behind.

Glenn’s programs, the families around the world, and the staff are the living and breathing embodiments of Glenn’s core philosophy.
