Lyla’s World Changed in Only Six Months (Autism)

Lyla developed normally until 11 months of age. She spoke her first words around 10 months of age, she crept on her hands and knees for a period, and then started to walk holding onto furniture around the house. She could hold objects and use crayons. She used to feed herself with a spoon too! However, at 11 months, she developed a fever. Soon after, Lyla’s mother noticed a decline in her development. She slowly began to lose her language and shied away from making eye contact. She stopped blowing kisses to people. She became hyperactive, began to walk on tiptoes, and would color for hours on end. She was not interested in playing with other children any longer. She wouldn’t turn when called and started to engage in repetitive actions. She was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Lyla’s parents attended the Doman Method® Course: From Special Needs to Wellness earlier this year. Parents took a live appointment right after the course at Doman International’s campus in Fauglia, Italy. At the time, Lyla was 4 years old. During her evaluation, she demonstrated her ability to read single words independently, even though her parents had not taught her how to read. It turned out she had taught herself to read words! She was so hypersensitive to touch that she barely could tolerate wearing clothes and at home she refused to wear any clothing. She was also very hypersensitive to sounds. She was able to creep on her fours, but not crawl on her belly. She could only say a few words of speech. She did not have a pincer grasp and couldn’t use both hands together to perform manual activities.

Within the next six months, parents did all of the recommended nutrition, respiration, physical and cognitive programs. At her most recent Remote Appointment at Doman International, Lyla demonstrated her ability to read homemade books independently! Parents reported that she could stay with her clothes on inside the house for up to 1 hour after having been out of the house (before this would have been impossible). Her hypersensitivity to sounds has reduced as well. She is less bothered by the sounds of household appliances like the blender, electric blinds, and hairdryer. She is able not only to use her pincer grasp, but also screw and unscrew a water bottle and pour water from one cup to another without any help from parents.

As regards her physical accomplishments, she has learned to crawl on her belly and does so up to 150 meters daily. She creeps on her hands and knees for 700 meters daily. She is now speaking more than 10 words and is starting to speak two words together! Parents share they hear her play speaking in Italian “di qui” (from here) or chiding with “papa no!” (dad, no!)

We congratulate Lyla and her parents for their incredible success in only 6 months of doing the Doman Method programs!
