Melanie Learns to Read, Write, and Speak (Autism)

At about 16 months of age, Melanie lost eye contact, speech, and became aggressive toward herself and others around her. She would flap her hands constantly and had difficulty sleeping. Over time, parents noticed that she was hypersensitive to sounds in her environment and would cover her ears. She was later diagnosed with Autism.

Melanie was six years old when her parents learned about the Doman MethodTM. At the time, she knew her alphabet and numbers up to 10, but could not read. Her level of understanding was limited to short, simple sentences and was below her age-level. She had little speech and could speak only a couple of words. She had difficulty using two hands together and could not write. She was also hypersensitive to sounds and touch.

Parents immediately began with the recommended nutrition plan which helped reduce her feelings of aggression and Melanie began to sleep through the night. They also did a consistent physical, respiratory, and cognitive program with Melanie, working with enthusiasm every day. She has made great progress in a short period of two years.

At her most recent Doman MethodTM appointment with Doman International, Melanie demonstrated her ability to read hundreds of words! She enjoys the homemade books her family beautifully writes for her. She can independently type and navigate searches on the internet too! Her understanding has grown from simple sentences to understanding time, days, and months on the calendar, and following checklists of self-care independently. Her sensitivity to both sounds and touch has greatly reduced. She can now say many words of speech and is beginning to speak in short sentences.

Melanie’s parents and the staff at Doman International are celebrating Melanie’s ability to type words and phrases independently. She can write independently on paper too and is very proud of her skill! Reading is an important skill to have for developing the ability to spell, type, or write.

We congratulate Melanie and her family for their wonderful efforts, and for Melanie to continue on her journey to thrive!
