Doman Parents: 5 Questions

by Niyati Patel

We are proud to call all our parents doing the Doman Method® programs, “Doman Parents”. Their warrior spirit to overcome any and all challenges to help their children get better is inspiring. We reached out to some Doman Parents to ask them questions about their experience doing the program with their child, the results of their hard work, and their advice for other parents. Below we have provided their answers to our (and your) questions:

Katie, from the U.K.

1. What is the one thing you never expected your child to be able to do and now you see them do regularly?

Alfie creeping and exploring he is into everything it is really lovely to see, and Harry communicating his feelings.

2. What is the single piece of advice you would give to other parents?

Believe in your child and their capabilities.

3. What single piece of advice would you give kids on the Doman Method program?

Keep fighting and pushing on and remember the importance of small steps.

4. What is your favorite activity of the Doman Method Programs?

I enjoy getting to know both Alfie and Harry more day by day with the choice board and also with the physical programme creeping and crawling, getting stronger by the day.

5. What is the most recent milestone that your child has achieved?

Alfie’s recent milestone is creeping. He has also learnt to pull to stand and is climbing onto whatever he can! Harry is crawling off the incline now after each go and going on to crawl another metre if not more.

Alessandra, from Italy

1. What is the one thing you never expected your child to be able to do and now you see them do regularly?
At a certain point it seemed almost impossible to do patterning (program) with Giovanni, now it’s the easiest thing to do.

2. What is the single piece of advice you would give to other parents?
Stay close to your child with your heart and your mind and you will find the way to do what seems impossible. Doing the program, I have learned to communicate better with my children.

3. What single piece of advice would you give kids on the Doman Method program?
Have fun!

4. What is your favorite activity of the Doman Method Programs?
My favourite activity is running.

5. What is the most recent milestone that your child has achieved?
Stefano can run 100 meters non stop.

Monique, from Canada

1. What is the one thing you never expected your child to be able to do and now you see them do regularly?
Simple things like being able to walk next to me without having a death grip on him. Or be able to play independently. You know stuff other kids do.

2. What is the single piece of advice you would give to other parents?
Start doing the Doman Program ASAP. It will make your life so much easier. Yes the program is intense but your life becomes calmer.

3. What single piece of advice would you give kids on the Doman Method program?
Be gentle on yourself. This is a marathon not a race. And also celebrate the little wins.

4. What is your favorite activity of the Doman Method Programs?
The reading program by far!

5. What is the most recent milestone that your child has achieved?
Zakari learned how to brachiate (do the monkey bars) independently last week. And it’s generalized to the park. He can’t even reach the bars at the park yet, but all we have to do is lift him up and give him one little swing and he can make it across the whole length of the ladder. At home on our own ladder he does it completely on his own.

Maya, from Indonesia

1. What is the one thing you never expected your child to be able to do and now you see them do regularly?
Moving. When we first came to Doman International, Sophie was immobile. Now she is walking in a year’s time.

2. What is the single piece of advice you would give to other parents?
If you think the Doman Method is worth trying, focus on it and do your best. Don't (let other things) interfere with your mind, what others say "may work". Give the Doman Method your full focus, and the results will show.

3. What single piece of advice would you give kids on the Doman Method program?
Just keep going. No matter how little you think you progress, it will pay off.

4. What is your favorite activity of the Doman Method Programs?
Doman Cards because the kids love it! It shows how quickly they understand complex subjects. They are excited about learning new things. They see different pictures and are able to show off their capabilities to us.

5. What is the most recent milestone that your child has achieved?
She is walking!
